Disability Services based on
the philosophy of Rudolf Steiner
|
|
| |
Warrah Day Services support adults with
intellectual disabilities in meaningful planned activities. The services
are based on each client’s individual aspirations. The programs are
based on the principles and methods of Rudolf Steiner and the New South
Wales Disability Services Act (1993).To this end, Warrah Day Services
operate from seven units which are known as Merriwa, Towilla, Cooinda,
Waaia, Yandina, Diramu and the Farm.
These units are designed to meet the needs of each individual as much as
possible. Nevertheless, there are |
 |
elements that are common to most of them or are
present to varying degrees. These are community participation,
leisure activities, creative arts, skills development, therapy
programs, vocational skills and farming. Looking at each unit:
Merriwa focuses on transition into adult life.
Towilla focuses on community participation.
Cooinda focuses on creative arts.
Waaia focuses on providing an environment to meet the needs
of clients who are ageing or prefer a more passive lifestyle.
Yandina focuses on providing an environment to meet the needs
of clients who prefer
a predictable and safe lifestyle.
Diramu focuses on vocational training, transition to work and
farm activities.
The Farm focuses on providing hands on vocational
opportunities.

Each unit has its own eligibility criteria
but the general eligibility criteria for Warrah Day Services are
that individuals are at least 18 years of age, have left school
and have a primary intellectual or multi disabilities with
moderate to high support needs.
In addition, some clients will have to meet outcomes according
to their funding arrangements. Each unit aims to group clients
with specific needs, age appropriateness or areas of specific
interest. More generally, programs are flexible and continually
evolve to meet individual and group requirements, available
resources and changing community standards.
Warrah Day Services operate Monday to Friday from 9.00 am to
3.00 pm. The Services do not provide transport to Warrah Day
Services in the morning or home in the afternoon; that is the
responsibility of the client or the client’s advocate. |
Warrah Day Services charge $5.00 per day to cover service
activity costs. Some external courses and community based
activities may require additional fees; these will be
arranged in consultation with
advocates.
Should clients wish to attend the Service on days in
additional to those covered by Government funding,
arrangements can be made with the Day Services Manager. Fees
for additional days are dependent on the level of the
individual’s support needs.
